Time to get to new inisght is the primary metric behinf data transformation

One of the main objectives of data transformation is faster time to get to new insights, it should be days instead of months

Let me give you an example of a hypothetical fashion retailer.

Let's say in your weekly business review (WBR) you were tracking Conversion and closing stocks, the leadership team realized that closing stocks is not the only controllable input metric correlated with store conversion, you need to monitor another metric, avg. size availability at store level.

Now ask yourself how much time will it take your organization to see a new metric in the WBR? This will give an idea of where you are currently in the data transformation journey.

a). You do not have automated WBR dashboards or do not do WBR and you could not see avg. size availability metric in 6 months after that discussion.
You have lost it. You need to significantly invest time and energy in data transformation and bring in the right people.

b). You have a WBR dashboard and you could see this new metric in 1-2 months.
 
You have the basics right but you are still far behind the industry benchmarks.

c). You could see the new metric in the next WBR with metric calculation, the owner already identified and agreed upon and the details analysis of avg. size availability impact on conversion is also presented with statistically sound arguments.

If this is the case you are on the right track. keep doing more of what you are doing.
